Because of the existence of these lines, the Ming-style furniture is more smooth and not monotonous.

The thread is basically a purely decorative means and is not practical. There is a kind of thread foot, which will also have a little practical function at the same time. For example, there will be a waterstop on the tabletop, and the edge of the table will be slightly higher than the table to prevent water from spilling out on the tabletop.

The word "line" is an architectural term that has the same meaning as the line shape on furniture. The legs are shown by the yang and yin lines formed by the height of the line, and the convex and concave surfaces formed by the height of the face. The surface is round, and the line is wide and narrow, and it is dense, so it forms a variety of line feet.

There are a number of terms used in carpentry to describe these legs. For example, an ice tray edge is a line leg on the frame of furniture (both symmetrical and asymmetrical up and down can be referred to as an ice tray edge). The long side of the border is called the "edge wipe", the short side is called the "trowel", the convex side is called the "mixed side", and so on.

Some of the common threads are "lamp grass line", "two pillars of incense", "leather strip line", "wolf horn line", "melon edge", etc., and there are many threads that cannot be called.

There are also many styles of thread feet in Qing Dynasty furniture, but Qing Dynasty furniture draws people's attention to the complicated carving, and ignores the existence of line legs. In contrast, the use of thread feet on Ming-style furniture is very successful, and it is more worthy of people's careful taste and study.

Line feet is a kind of classical furniture decoration, mainly used in the furniture of the "side wipe" (big side and wipe Hu Hongtou) and legs and feet, all the line feet can be divided into two kinds of asymmetry and symmetry, no matter what the shape of the asymmetrical line legs, the craftsmen call them "ice plate edge", saying that it is like the edge of a plate.
