The Shape of Water

The story takes place in 1963, during the Cold War, and the mute girl Elisa (Sally Hawkins) works in a government laboratory and is a cleaning lady there. When she was young, a serious illness robbed her of Alyssa's voice, and she has lived a lonely life in silence ever since, with only the landlady (Nick Searcy) and her colleague Zelda (Octavia Spencer).

One day, a high-security alarm goes off in the lab, and a mysterious jar filled with water is sent in, and Alyssa is shocked to find that the jar contains a strange creature that is half human, half fish. Led by Richard (Michael Shannon), a team of scientists wants to refine the monster with substances that can make biological weapons, but in Alyssa's eyes, it is just a lonely life like herself. As time passed, feelings developed between Elsa and the monster.
