Steps to gilt furniture with gold leaf

Solid wood furniture gilding has existed since ancient times, and this way of highlighting luxury has been used by people so far, but today's gilding process is very different from the original, so let's take a look at the steps of solid wood furniture gilding.

The gilding of modern solid wood furniture must first be made of sandpaper, polishing a frame made of wood, wood glue, plywood to remove all thin strips of wood or protruding mud to fill all holes or defects.

Prepare the stucco glue and apply it to the frame with a brush. After a few hours, the sandpaper on the surface of the stucco is polished again and covered with colored varnish. The color of the first coat of varnish can be used to apply brighter gold leaf, earth for classical effects, and white and gray for silver foil, depending on the desired effect.

In the subsequent stages, the varnish layer applied to the product as a base can replace the plaster layer. Catalyzed diluent with 0% catalyst and 10-20% polyurethane diluent, which can be sprayed with a spray gun. Depending on the effect, it can be a different color.

After the coating process, the wood is allowed to dry for about two hours. When the preparation process is completed, any defects or stucco drips of the plaster or varnish should be polished.

The wood is ready to be glued and we use a white water-soluble gilding glue. Use a bar brush to apply to the part to be gilded. Be careful not to have drops. The adhesive can be maintained for half an hour to 12 hours after application, and the gold is applied after one hour.

In order not to lose stickiness, do not work in a dusty environment. and protect the treated surface. As soon as the glue dries, it begins to be gilded.

Depending on the area to be covered, gently pick up the gold leaf, carefully place it on the frame and use a special one to ensure that the gold leaf is slightly larger than the surface of the box. Corners, curves, twists and other parts are followed by additional gold leaf. Excess raw material should be wiped off with a softer wool brush.

This also allows the gold leaf to be properly fastened to the wood.
