The management problem of the online food delivery platform "Eleme" was exposed by the CCTV evening party because it did not fulfill its obligation to review the qualifications of the merchants operating on the platform, which may harm the interests of consumers.

CCTV said that the registration information of merchants providing services on the Ele.me takeaway platform was false, and the specific problems included the service provider providing fictitious addresses, submitting fake store photos, and the lack of food business licenses of registered merchants.

In addition, Ele.me staff also facilitated the registration of unqualified merchants and assisted them in completing the registration with false information. In the video broadcast by CCTV, the staff of Yanjiao Ele.me in Sanhe City, Hebei Province, were quoted as saying that "no need to provide any licenses" can be opened smoothly.

The Food Safety Law requires third-party platforms for online food trading to register food business operators with their real names to "clarify their food safety management responsibilities", and emphasizes that "if a license should be obtained in accordance with the law, its license shall also be reviewed." ”

According to the requirements of the Food Safety Law, when a food delivery platform discovers that a food business operator has violated the law, it should "stop it in a timely manner", report it to the food and drug administration, and "immediately stop providing online trading platform services." ”

A number of insiders of Ele.me responded to Tencent Finance that the access to the store has always been the responsibility of the offline local promotion team, including quality review and control. In 2014, Ele.me's team expanded from 700 to 4,000 people, most of whom were offline local push teams. At the beginning of 2016, the review process for store occupancy has been changed, and the quality control of stores has gradually been handed over to the company's newly established "operation center".

The background of Ele.me's team expansion is that on the one hand, a new round of financing is in place, and on the other hand, Meituan Takeaway has joined the battle on a large scale to seize the third- and fourth-tier markets.
