The cross-sectional material of the base layer of laminate flooring (that is, the thickest stressed layer) is made of very fine wood fibers glued together, and the base layer of composite solid wood flooring is a combination of laminates that are perpendicular to each other in the direction of wood fibers. The difference is very stark.
One is MDF-like and the other is laminate-like.
